Garment Industry Pakistan Assistance Policy

The government of Pakistan has agreed to provide 6% support for the garment industry, which will last until June 30, 2009.

Mr Athar Ahmed, vice president of garment manufacturers and Exporters Association of Pakistan, said the Ministry of Finance agreed to continue to provide 6% subsidy to the clothing industry for only one year.

However, the approval of the Economic Advisory Committee is still needed, and the final decision will be announced soon.

The clothing industry proposed a subsidy of 30 billion rupees, but the amount of specific R & D support has not yet been disclosed.
