Short Term Measures Do Not Expand Cotton Production In Pakistan

Australian entomologist Dr Neil Forrester visited the Karachi Cotton Association in October 14th. He will give some major shareholders his views on the cotton situation. At the same time, he will visit the APTMA.

He said that short-term measures can not improve Pakistan's cotton production. Pakistan's top bureaucracy has a very bad effect, and the government lacks responsibility for the main interests of the country.

Dr Forrester said that the government must immediately enact legislation to enact concession, protect the interests of spannational corporations, and introduce new seeds that are more adapted to the national climate and disease and insect pests.

He said that the current cotton leaf roll virus (CLVC) has existed for thousands of years and may have a greater impact on vertical crops. Therefore, more new varieties must be introduced.

He said that Pakistan local scientists continue to work hard, the government should give them authority, if the government can make proper use of the achievements of local scientists, Pakistan cotton production will get more help.
