According to the financial times and Reuters reported on September 29th, although European retailers, European footwear companies producing production outsourcing and most EU Member States oppose anti-dumping duties on Chinese and Vietnamese shoes, under pressure, EU Trade Commissioner Mandelson has proposed anti-dumping review on Chinese and Vietnamese shoes, during which anti-dumping duties are renewed.

EU officials said they would try to reduce the average period of the 12-15 month period of the usual anti-dumping review by half, so the most optimistic estimate is that the anti-dumping duty will be abolished as early as next spring.

In an open letter to Mandelson, the Italy and European Footwear Manufacturers Association stressed that if the anti-dumping duty was abolished, legal action would be taken against Mandelson.

Mandelson has been trying to reform the EU's trade defense measures and expand the EU's interests to consider the impact of trade defense measures on the EU economy, including consumers and importing companies. However, some countries are firmly obstructed.
