Types And Formulations Of Cross Linked Rubber Pressure Sensitive Adhesives

In order to improve the heat resistance, water resistance, solvent resistance and creep resistance of pressure sensitive adhesives, some crosslinking agents (also called vulcanizing agents) are often added in the above solvent rubber pressure sensitive adhesive formulations to make various high-performance crosslinked rubber pressure sensitive adhesives, such as heat resistant rubber pressure sensitive adhesive, solvent resistant rubber pressure sensitive adhesive, high-strength rubber pressure sensitive adhesive, etc.

There are 4 types of crosslinking agents for rubber pressure sensitive adhesives.

(1) sulfur and vulcanization accelerators are suitable for use in natural rubber pressure sensitive adhesives. There is usually two butyl amine two zinc thiocarbamate (BZ).

Sulfur is also contaminating and corrosiveness and can be directly cross-linked by four methyl TMTD, Zinc Oxide and BZ and mixtures.

(2) polyisocyanate and its prepolymer are suitable for crosslinking of natural rubber and carboxylic synthetic rubber pressure-sensitive adhesive. Commonly used are TDI (toluene diisocyanate), MDI (two benzene methane diisocyanate), and HMDI (hydrogenated two benzene methane diisocyanate).

(3) alkyl phenolic resin is suitable for crosslinking of butyl rubber and natural rubber pressure sensitive adhesive, and 2402 (TERT butylphenolic resin) is commonly used.

(4) organic peroxides are suitable for crosslinking of pressure sensitive adhesives such as styrene butadiene rubber, polyisoprene rubber and natural rubber. Commonly used are DCP (peroxide two isopropyl benzene, o-octyl phenyl two formic acid), BPO (benzoyl peroxide) and so on.

Crosslinking degree has great influence on the properties of rubber type pressure sensitive adhesive, so controlling crosslinking degree is very important.

The crosslinking degree of the pressure-sensitive adhesive is determined by the variety, dosage and crosslinking condition of the crosslinking agent and accelerator.

Because crosslinking improves the heat resistance, water resistance, solvent resistance and creep resistance of pressure sensitive adhesive, such pressure sensitive adhesives can be used to manufacture various kinds of pressure sensitive adhesive products with certain special properties, meeting various special purposes.

Test Methods For Adhesives And Adhesives

1 introduction there are many reasons for testing adhesives and adhesives. Some of them are: (1) performance comparison (tensile, shear, stripping, bending, impact and splitting strength; durability, fatigue, environmental resistance and conductivity). (2) check the quality of each batch of adhesives to determine whether they meet the standard requirements. (3) check the validity of the surface and its treatment. (4) determine parameters useful for predictive performance (curing conditions).
