Fletcher Carding Plant Closed

　　 from Fletcher Australia's last international export company Carding factory , which will close in December. The plant is located near the company's slaughterhouse in Dabo.

Mr. Roger Fletcher, the head of the company, mentioned that it was one of the last Australian companies in the wool washing business.

He said that in the wool top processing business, the company is no longer as low-cost as China National competition 。

At the Dabo plant, one worker's day's pay is equivalent to that of 50 workers in India or Bangladesh.

Mr. Fletcher will transfer 40 workers from the wool washing plant to other positions in the company.

Still, he said, the closure of the plant will not affect the wool industry and he remains confident about the future as global demand rises. "I think the wool industry is growing."

He said the company will continue to produce raw wool and make full use of the rail transport to Dabo to transport containers to the port.

　　 "But there's also a good thing about the world, because wool processing costs are much cheaper now than in the past."
