The delegation of the Association (PCGA) said that the current shortage of electricity and fuel supplies in China has seriously damaged the production of two major links in textile and cotton ginning. The delegation urged the government to take urgent measures to ensure adequate supply of energy.

On behalf of Shakeel Ahmad, PCGA said that Pakistan's textile export prospects in the current fiscal year are considerable, and exports are expected to reach US $14 billion.

Originally planned to increase investment and expand the production sector, however, due to the serious shortage of electricity and fuel, the recent failure to deliver on time has led to frequent orders to cancel orders, large financial losses in various sectors and a large number of labour losses. Therefore, the expansion plan has to be suspended.

Generally speaking, the annual work of the cotton ginning mill lasts for 9 months, while the textile mill is right.

The demand is continuous throughout the year. Due to the strong demand at home and abroad, the textile factories in Punjab are now moving 24 hours a day. There are nearly 1200 cotton ginning plants in single and Sindh provinces, which are running around the clock. Therefore, if there is a problem in the energy supply of one side, the entire textile link will collapse or cause a loss of nearly one billion rupees.

Ahmad stressed that cotton is one of the economic pillars of Pakistan, and exports of cotton and its by-products account for 66% of its total exports annually.

Therefore, the completion of record textile production in 2011/12 depends largely on the adequacy of electricity and fuel supply.
