The First Domestic Combustion Dummy Laboratory Was Built At Donghua University.

Recently, the functional protection clothing research center of Donghua University has built the first domestic combustion dummy laboratory, placing Donghua's "fire man" in the flames. It is expected to achieve an objective and scientific evaluation of the actual protective effect of special clothing such as military uniform, fireproof clothing, fire-fighting clothing, flame-retardant and high-temperature clothing and so on.

The clothing burning manikin experiment originated in 1960s and was first founded by the US Navy. Since then, Canada, Switzerland, Japan and other countries have developed the experimental device for burning dummy, but there are limitations in the design of dummy models, the reliability of sensors and the simulation of fire environment. Donghua University's successful combustion dummy and combustion simulation environment laboratory has strengthened the improvement of these aspects. It has made comprehensive use of bio heat transfer analysis technology, material modification technology, ergonomics manufacturing technology, sensor technology, combustion engineering and automatic control technology, and has reached the international leading level.

According to Professor Li Jun, director of the Department of clothing design and engineering, Donghua University, a Simulated Combustion Laboratory for simulating the shape of the Chinese people, capable of accurately perceiving the high temperature heat flow in different positions, accurately predicting the burn degree of the body skin, and the combustion simulation environmental laboratory with high simulated fire risk environment were successfully built in Donghua University for three years. The combustion dummy system is a cutting-edge international advanced technology interrelated with clothing science and biophysics. It is currently recognized as the best means to objectively and comprehensively evaluate the overall thermal protection performance of clothing.

Li Jun said that the successful development of the combustion dummy and combustion simulation environment laboratory has provided an effective platform for human body interaction with the outside world. "We put the protective clothing on the fire man to carry out the combustion experiment, which can not only carry out the heat and mass transfer study on the flame retardant performance of the protective clothing, but also carry out the biophysical research of human tissue burn analysis."
