New Regulations On European Clothing Labels

Recently, through the new regulations on textile labels, the European Union has revised the existing regulations on the names, labels, marking and use of textile fibers, as well as the determination of textile fiber components, with the purpose of regulating the specification and textiles of textile and apparel products in the EU market.

Labelling system

The new regulation of the EU is adapted to "the weight percentage of textile fibers or textile parts up to 80% of the relevant products". The new regulation clearly stipulates that when manufacturers and importers put textiles into the EU market, it is the responsibility to ensure that the labels or labels on the products are accurate and accurate. The names of all the fibers used in the products must be listed in labels or markings according to the weight percentage, and that a single fiber that accounts for less than 5% of the total weight of the textile, or a variety of fibers that account for less than 15% of the total weight of the textile, can be listed as "other fibers".

The regulations will also force suppliers to label non-woven parts of animals, such as fur and leather, on labels.

New regulation

The 3 existing EU directives, namely 73/44/EEC, 96/73/EC and 2008/121/EC, will take effect after the publication of the EU official gazette.

In the inspection and supervision of European Union products, the inspection and quarantine officers of the Changzhou inspection and Quarantine Bureau found that the problems existed in textile and clothing labels were as follows: the fiber component identification did not meet the requirements, such as the fiber content did not match, the fiber label name was not in conformity with the product, the fiber content was not in conformity with the contract, the washing label did not meet the requirements, some products requiring washing marks were not labeled washing requirements or incorrect marking, and there was no violation of the domestic and foreign trademark usage regulations.

To grant authorization

The use of well-known trademarks abroad

Production and operation

And so on.

To this end, Changzhou Bureau reminds textile and garment export enterprises: first, we should attach great importance to the new regulations of the EU textile labels, actively learn the mandatory requirements of the new regulations, and correctly label the labels of textiles to ensure that the products meet the EU requirements; two, we should strengthen the examination of the labels provided by customers, prevent the customer labels from being in conformity with the requirements of the importing countries of the European Union, and thus bring unnecessary losses; three, we must recognize that labels are also an important part of the quality of products. We should be honest and self disciplined. We should check the uncertain ingredient labels in time to the relevant authority inspection departments, so as to avoid the European textiles being notified, returned or confiscated because of the unqualified labels.
