Research And Application Of Fiber Dyeing Catalytic Functional Fiber

Host: Tao Lulu

Guest: Dr. Lv Wangyang, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University.

If one day, the curtains and sofas of the family can "drive away" formaldehyde, can you breathe a sigh of relief because of the ubiquitous indoor protection?

Similarly, there are also printing and dyeing enterprises in the textile industry. Maybe a few pieces of cloth can realize their dream of energy saving and emission reduction.

Based on the unique advantages of fiber materials used in living rooms and affinity between fiber materials and dyes, a new idea of catalytic functional fiber degradation of organic pollutants was proposed by Professor Chen Wenxing, Professor of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University.

In this issue, we asked Professor Chen Wenxing, a student of the project, to finish Dr. Lv Wangyang's talk about the special features of catalytic functional fibers.

Two main contents

Four innovations

Host: what are the main contents of the catalytic functional fiber project?

Lv Wangyang: mainly to eliminate volatile organic compounds in indoor air and to dye dyes in water.

organic pollutant

Two aspects.

Two types of catalytic functional fibers were designed and prepared by using formaldehyde, methyl mercaptan and hydrogen sulfide as the target pollutants in indoor air.

One is hollow core shell structure nanocatalysis supported catalytic functional fiber.

We have invented the preparation method of hollow core shell structure nano titanium dioxide photocatalyst, which has broken through the problem of photoetching organic carrier which affects the practical application of titanium dioxide.

The catalytic functional fiber can effectively remove formaldehyde and other harmful gases under illumination.

The other is metallo phthalocyanine supported catalytic functional fiber. Under its action, two new types of metal phthalocyanine derivatives are synthesized, and the catalytic functional fibers are prepared by chemical bonding. Under natural conditions, the odor of methyl mercaptan and hydrogen sulfide can be eliminated without illumination.

In the degradation of dyes and other organic pollutants in water, we use dyes in printing and dyeing wastewater as the target pollutants, and study a series of basic theoretical problems such as the design and preparation of catalytic functional fibers, the performance of degradation of organic pollutants, the catalytic mechanism, the degradation process and the degradation products.

The idea of "organic pollutants such as fiber degrading dyes" was put forward for the first time, that is, by using the special affinity of organic pollutants such as catalytic functional fibers and dyes, the target pollutants such as dyes can be adsorbed and aggregated to the interface and inside of catalytic functional fibers for in-situ catalytic oxidation and degradation, and the functional fibers can be reused repeatedly.

Moderator: main catalyst for functional fiber projects

innovation point

What are they?

Lv Wangyang: mainly in the following aspects:

One is to synthesize two kinds of metal phthalocyanine derivatives, which are water-soluble, reactiveness and high catalytic activity. They are prepared by grafting with cellulosic fibers, protein fibers and activated carbon fibers to form new catalytic functional fibers, which can effectively eliminate odor in indoor air and dyes and other organic pollutants in industrial wastewater.

The two is the preparation of hollow core shell structure of nano titanium dioxide catalyst, which not only keeps the photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide, but also avoids the corrosion of titanium dioxide to organic carriers.

The catalyst was loaded onto the fiber surface to produce catalytic functional fiber, which can effectively remove volatile organic compounds in indoor air.

The three is the idea of "organic pollutants such as fiber degrading dyes".

That is, by using the special affinity of organic pollutants such as catalytic functional fibers and dyes, the target contaminants such as dyes can be adsorbed and aggregated to the interface and internal of catalytic functional fibers. Under the action of oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide or directly using visible light to catalyze the degradation of dyes and other organic pollutants, the functional fibers can be reused repeatedly.

The four is to discover the synergistic catalytic mechanism of carbon materials and metal phthalocyanines. The metal phthalocyanines covalently bond with carbon materials. Carbon materials not only play a supporting role, but also participate in the electron accepting and accepting with metal phthalocyanines in catalytic reactions. The introduction of carbon materials can greatly enhance the catalytic activity of metal phthalocyanines.

Using this principle, activated carbon fiber supported metal phthalocyanine catalyst can be effectively adsorbed and aggregated and catalyzed to degrade phenolic compounds. Activated carbon fibers can be regenerated in situ.

Fiber dominance

Degradation of harmful gases at ambient temperature

Host: why use fiber materials to purify air and water pollutants?

and

Traditional purification methods

What are the advantages of it?

Lv Wangyang: fiber materials not only consume less resources, consume less energy and pollute the environment in manufacturing and processing, but also take the initiative to control environmental pollution.

In view of organic pollutants in air and water, the mature treatment technologies include adsorption technology and biotechnology.

Adsorption technology mainly uses activated carbon and molecular sieve and other high surface area materials to adsorb organic pollutants, so as to achieve the purpose of purifying air and water. However, due to the limited adsorption capacity of adsorption materials, regular regeneration or replacement is needed, resulting in two pollution.

Biotechnological wastewater treatment equipment is simple, easy to operate, and low in operation cost. However, the treatment cycle is long and the occupied area is large. Moreover, toxic and persistent organic pollutants are harmful to microorganism and affect the growth and degradation of organic pollutants.

Therefore, advanced oxidation technologies with high efficiency, fast oxidation and thorough oxidation have been developed, such as ozone oxidation, wet oxidation, photocatalytic oxidation and so on. Photocatalytic oxidation technology has attracted much attention, but there are also limitations.

We have chosen metallo phthalocyanine to load a series of new catalytic functional fibers on fiber, and propose a new idea of catalyzing functional fibers to degrade organic pollutants in indoor air and water. It is found that the catalytic functional fibers made from metal phthalocyanine loaded fibers can remove harmful gases in indoor air at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, and can also catalyze the degradation of organic pollutants such as dyes and phenols in water, and can be reused.

Combining biotechnology and recycling

Facilitate market promotion

Moderator: please talk about the application of the project in detail.

Lv Wangyang: fiber material is a slender material. It has the characteristics of large surface area, good softness and easy weaving. Therefore, the catalytic functional fiber we study can not only make curtains, mattresses, sofas and all kinds of interior decorations, but also be used as air conditioning filters, air purifiers, and so on, and is economical, convenient and practical. Therefore, this air purifying fiber has good application prospects in family living rooms, offices, conference rooms, hotel rooms, schools, shopping malls and other places.

Our university student research group, using metallo phthalocyanine supported catalytic functional fibers, has made the Christmas tree ornaments, which are not only beautiful but also have the function of purifying indoor air. The result has been awarded the two prize of the tenth "Challenge Cup" National College Students' extracurricular academic science and technology competition.

The air filter made of catalytic functional fiber is installed on the photocatalytic air purifier, which is expected to purify indoor air.

In addition, catalytic functional fibers can be combined with biotechnology to degrade organic pollutants such as dyes and phenols, and can be recycled.

In short, after solving basic theoretical problems and engineering research, catalytic functional fibers and their extended materials have broad application prospects in air purification and wastewater treatment.
