Adidas Clothing Brand

Environmental groups say products contain "environmental hormones" which may affect reproduction and development.

Adidas, Lining and other clothes were exposed to "poison".

Following the release of the "fashion poison - the global clothing brand's China water pollution survey" released last month, Greenpeace also has the latest research progress. In August 23rd, the latest report of Greenpeace released by the international Greenpeace organization, "poison hidden in clothing," is a survey of toxic and harmful substances in global brand clothing. It is pointed out that the products of Adidas and Lining and other famous international brands contain "environmental hormone" nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (NPE). Greenpeace requires these brands to immediately commit themselves to eliminating and eliminating toxic and harmful substances that are used and discharged in their supply chain.

On the morning of August 24th, the reporter contacted the responsible person of the relevant manufacturers. The other side said they were not aware of the matter and would give a reply after they understood the matter.

11 brands

Emissions of environmental hormones to China

Between April 2011 and May, Greenpeace is in 18 countries, including China, Britain and Argentina. Purchase 78 samples of 15 clothing brands, including sportswear, Leisure time Clothing and footwear. (legal weekly news hotline: 0731-84802117) the origin of these samples relates to 13 textile producing countries such as China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Greenpeace sent these samples to a qualified third party Laboratory for testing. The results showed that samples of 11 brands including Adidas and Lining were detected to contain NPE.

NPE is often used as a surfactant in textile production. It will decompose rapidly into nonylphenol (NP) when it is released into the environment. NP is a recognized environmental hormone, which is extremely harmful. The EU promulgated the REACH regulations in 2005 to prohibit its use in textile production. At the beginning of this year, China also joined NPE and NP in the catalogue of toxic chemicals that China strictly restricted imports and exports. However, there is no corresponding regulation on its use and emissions in China. Greenpeace discovered in 2010 that the wild fish in the Yangtze River Basin were enriched with environmental hormones including NP.

  The supply chain should be eliminated.

Toxic and harmful substances used

Greenpeace says NPE has been banned in Europe and the United States, but has not received enough attention in China. These clothing brands have a responsibility to ensure that their environmental policies and performance are consistent with their brand values. The most urgent thing is to brand Commitments should be made to eliminate toxic and harmful substances used in the supply chain, disclose environmental information to the public, and develop action plans with clear timetables to prevent further accumulation of toxic and harmful substances in rivers, thereby threatening human health and the environment.

Zhang Kai, director of the Greenpeace pollution prevention and control project, told reporters in the "legal weekly" that NP is the world's recognized environmental hormone. Research shows that even if the concentration of this substance is low, it is also very dangerous. It can mimic estrogen, affect the sexual development of organisms, interfere with the endocrine of organisms, and is toxic to reproductive system. Zhang Kai explained: "it has permanence and bioaccumulation. That is to say, once it is discharged into the environment, it will exist in the environment for a long time, and it can enter the food chain and enlarge it step by step through the food chain. At the same time, it also has the function of mimicking estrogen. Once it enters the organism, it will affect the normal reproduction and development of the organism, and even lead to the decrease of male sperm count. {page_break}

   Li Ning Co

Said its products comply with EU standards.

In August 24th, the reporter called the Li Ning Co's switchboard, hoping to interview Zhang Xiaoyan, director of public relations of the company. The operator said he could not provide the number and transfer. The reporter wanted the operator to transfer the call to the public relations department, and the operator said no name could not be transferred.

On the official website of the Li Ning Co, a statement dated August 22nd indicated that its products were in line with EU standards. The company decided to make a commitment to achieve environmentally friendly emissions in the supply chain. As for the specific improvement time and plan, the statement did not mention it.

Subsequently, the reporter contacted Adidas headquarters in Shanghai on the matter, and the staff said they were not clear about the matter, and hoped that reporters would leave a contact and give a reply. As of press time, the reporter has not received any reply from Adidas headquarters in Shanghai.
