Employers and unions agreed on a 30% reduction in salaries of new hires, hoping to create more job opportunities and promote the development of South African textile industry.

This is from the textile industry employers and southern Africa.

The Southern Africa Clothing and Textile Workers Union Sactwu has been the first time in South Africa's history. When other industries in South Africa are considering the implementation of the youth employment subsidy mechanism, relevant support and opponents of the mechanism are closely observing whether the agreement can achieve the effect of reducing youth unemployment rate.

Garment manufacturers in Cape Province, which are hit by cheap Chinese goods, also hope that the agreement will enable the company's business to flourish again.

The South African textile industry has set the goal of creating 5000 jobs within 3 years after the coordinated implementation. Sactwu also said yesterday that the agreement had the effect of encouraging employers to recruit new people, which would provide more jobs for young people without harming existing jobs.

South Africa's textile industry has lost at least 50 thousand jobs in the past ten years. Although recent data show that the rate of job loss has slowed down, the industry is still restricted by the import of cheap Chinese products.

Management dilemma

According to statistics, the industry reduced 10 thousand jobs last year, and 14516 jobs were lost in 2009.
