Textile Industry Tariffs In India

India textile industry and the central government agreed to gradually reduce import tariffs and eventually abolish import tariffs.

India

Since 2007, the Ministry of Commerce has held negotiations with the European Union on free trade agreements (FTA). Now the negotiations have entered an important stage.

The formal name of the free trade agreement is the bilateral trade and investment agreement (BTIA). The goal of the two sides' negotiations is to reduce bilateral relations within 10 years.

Trade

About 90% of the basket's products are subject to customs duties, and the tariff is eventually abolished.

In 2010-11, the India EU trade volume was US $91 billion.

The Ministry of textiles has told the Ministry of commerce that the textile industry is willing to cover BTIA.

In the 2010-11 fiscal year, India's total textile exports amounted to US $26 billion 800 million and the European Union accounted for nearly US $8 billion.

Because the garments imported from European countries are negligible and limited to high-end brand clothing, the industry believes that the proposed free trade agreement will improve the market access conditions for India textiles in Europe.

At present, India has imposed nearly 10% tariffs on imported fabrics or clothing from the European Union. At the same time, the group of 27 has imposed tariffs of up to 9.6% on exports from India.

Mr. Nair, Secretary General of the India Textile Industry Federation (CITI), said that we do not require any protection measures for the import of textiles and clothing from the EU because there is no cost competition in the DK.

We do not see any threat in this respect.

EU exports to India provide only elite products.
