Srijib Roy, CO director of the Export Promotion Association, said India will promote trade relations with Philippines.

Roy said that this will be the first time that India has held such an exhibition to introduce the quality of various India products.

He said the exhibition will also become an excellent opportunity for Philippines garment manufacturers and textile importers to explore partnership with India manufacturers.

Philippines is a net importer of textiles.

Philippines imports textiles from China. At present, China is Philippines's main trading partner and textile supplier country.

However, due to the stalemate in Huangyan, trade relations between Philippines and China are currently shaken.

Shashank Pareerk, director of Philippines textile industry, said that this is an opportunity for India and Philippines to strengthen economic and trade relations, especially in the

Textile industry

Philippines's per capita annual net consumption of textiles is 60 kilograms, which means that Philippines's huge demand for textiles, in turn, may help promote the country's clothing industry.

According to Roy, India is one of the leading textile producing countries in the world. Therefore, India is likely to become one of the countries supplying textiles to Philippines.

Over the past three years, India's exports to Philippines increased significantly from 5 million US dollars in 2008 to US $13 million in 2010.

Roy said that for India's man-made fiber textiles, Philippines is a growing market. In 2010, the export of India's man-made fibres to Philippines increased by 24% compared with 2009.

India is the fourth largest producer of man-made fibres in the world, and is a large-scale textile production and distribution center.

India's man-made fiber exports to 150 countries, of which the Middle East and the Gulf region are the largest destinations, accounting for 25% of India's total exports.

Followed by Asian countries (23%).

The European Union is the third largest importer, accounting for 22% of India's exports.
