European Clothing Brands Will Raise Wages For Kampuchea Workers

Recently, Kampuchea's clothing workers poured into the streets to protest for raising the minimum wage standard.

European H&M, Zara and Primark and other fast selling clothing brands jointly sent letters to the government of Kampuchea, saying that it will promote the textile industry in Kampuchea to raise the wages of workers and bring wage increases into their clothing procurement cost budgets.

In order to ensure fair wages, the brand will reflect the rise of labor costs on the price.

The media said that these clothing retail brands had been widely condemned by public opinion, and were considered indifferent to garment factory workers, lowering their wages for maximizing their own interests.

And by doing so, they can restore or enhance the brand image.

It is reported that the rise of the clothing industry has greatly promoted the economic development of Kampuchea, creating 500 thousand jobs for Kampuchea and creating 3 billion pounds a year.

Ath Thorn, chairman of the Kampuchea apparel industry union, said that these large enterprises from Europe could directly negotiate with workers and take concrete measures to raise the wages of Kampuchea garment workers.

Can employees' "deposit" be taken?

In September 24th, the town labor security supervision squadron received a complaint from Lu, according to Lu Mou. In May this year, he applied for work in an accessory factory.

The director asked Lu to pay a deposit of 500 yuan for staff clothing and other expenses.

In September 5th, Lu Mou quit, he asked the factory to return 500 yuan, but the factory has already been wearing one of its work clothes, and only promised to refund 200 yuan.

After receiving the complaint, the inspector immediately contacted the director of the accessory factory to educate, guide and inform the interests. After repeated coordination, the director of the factory said that it was an offence to know that the deposit was secured, and it would be corrected immediately.

  

Pay

Various deposit and detain identity cards such as contract deposit, tool deposit, clothing deposit and so on are the usual means for employers to restrict the turnover of workers.

The labor contract law clearly stipulates that if the employer violates the regulations and detains the identity cards of laborers, the labor administrative department shall order the workers to refund the workers themselves within a prescribed time limit and shall be punished according to the relevant laws and regulations.

Where an employer violates the regulations and charges property to the laborers in the name of guaranty or other names, the labor administrative department shall order the worker to refund the worker himself within a prescribed time limit, and impose a fine of below 500 yuan and 2000 yuan per person.
