Explanation of cotton production statistics investigation system and method

The total output of cotton in China is the sum of the total output of cotton in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities).

I. statistical survey methods

Cotton production statistics survey adopts remote sensing survey and sampling survey of the main producing areas, and combines the methods of comprehensive statistics for non major production areas, including land plots, agricultural production and operation households and business units. In Xinjiang, cotton planting area was obtained through remote sensing measurement, and the yield per unit area was obtained by sampling survey. Hebei, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan and other 7 main cotton producing provinces are responsible for carrying out a sample survey to obtain area and yield data by the relevant investigation team of the National Bureau of statistics.

The 7 main cotton producing provinces (Hebei, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Hubei and Hunan) were sampled and investigated by agricultural production and management households. The survey was conducted by representative villagers' groups, farmers and plots based on the total selection of the province. The planting area survey was conducted to investigate all cotton planting areas in the sample points at the time of investigation and calculate the actual planting area of cotton. The unit area yield survey uses the method of household visit to calculate unit area output.

Since 2014, the National Bureau of statistics has carried out cotton remote sensing survey in Xinjiang. Through the high, medium spatial resolution, multi temporal satellite remote sensing images combined with ground sampling survey, the cotton planting area of Xinjiang has been measured.

The cotton planting area of Xinjiang Cotton Remote Sensing Survey and 7 cotton main production provinces accounted for more than 97% of the total cotton area in China.

Two. Sample survey

The field survey of cotton remote sensing survey in Xinjiang includes more than 2000 samples, a total of about 500000 Mu survey plots; 7 cotton producing provinces in more than 100 counties, more than 700 villagers' groups were selected, and a sample survey was conducted in over 100 thousand plots. Cotton yield per unit area was investigated in nearly 1000 village teams and nearly 10000 farmers nationwide.

Three. Measured method

According to the statistical system of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, the survey of cotton yield per unit area was carried out by means of field measurement and household production measurement.

The field survey was carried out in the random sampling area survey sample. When the cotton mature period approached, all plots in the sampling point were estimated. According to the plot per unit area level, 5 representative plots were selected as the actual plots according to the cumulative sampling and the equal distance sampling method. After the cotton ripening, 3 small sample plots were selected manually, and the cotton yield per unit area was investigated through several peach, weighing and approved losses.

The household survey was conducted in a random sampling area survey sample. When the cotton mature period approached, the average household yield per household was calculated according to the estimated land output per unit area of the sample plots. After the maturity of cotton, 10 households were sampled by accumulative interval sampling method based on the average per unit area yield. After the cotton harvest was finished, the cotton planting area, harvest volume, sale volume, storage volume and self occupied amount of the households were registered, and the unit production level was calculated. The general survey teams of the National Bureau of statistics reckon the average unit area output of the whole province (district and city) according to the unit output of the sampled plots.
