Hainan Holds A Symposium On The Protection Of Li Nationality'S Spinning, Dyeing, Weaving And Embroidery Skills

As one of the series of activities of Hainan brocade and embroidery world culture week 2020, the Forum on the protection of Li nationality's traditional textile, dyeing, weaving and embroidery skills was held in Haikou City, Hainan Province a few days ago.

The spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering methods used by Li people in making clothes are one of the oldest cotton textile dyeing and embroidery techniques in China and even in the world, which is called the living fossil of textile industry. In October 2009, the project of traditional spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidery of Li nationality was selected into the list of intangible cultural heritages urgently needed to be protected by UNESCO. In the past 11 years, Hainan provincial government has invested a total of 102.6 million yuan in the construction of five learning venues for Li Jin skills, 45 Li Jin transfer institutes, and 62 primary and secondary schools in 9 cities and counties to carry out practical courses of Li Jin skills in campus. More than 20000 students participated in the study. From less than 1000 inheritors at the time of declaration, the number has increased by 20 times 。

At the forum, Ledong, Baisha, Qiongzhong, Dongfang and Baoting Bureau of tourism and culture shared the achievements, measures and work experience of protection and inheritance of Lijin. Experts, scholars, enterprise representatives and inheritors talked about their views and suggestions on the "three year action plan for the protection and development of Li nationality's traditional textile, dyeing, weaving and embroidery skills (2021-2023) (discussion draft), and jointly put forward suggestions and suggestions for the further development of Hainan intangible cultural heritage protection and development.
