Industrial Cluster: Cotton Planting Area Is Expected To Increase By 23% In Punjab, India
Driven by rising prices and increased demand, the cotton planting area in Punjab may increase this year. In 2021 / 22, the cotton price is 13000 rupees per kilogram, more than twice the 6025 rupees set by the central government.
This year, Punjab set a target of planting 400000 ha of cotton (an increase of 23%). Despite the damage to crops caused by the attack of pink ringworm last year, the cotton planting area in 2021 was 335000 ha, an increase of 75000 ha compared with 250000 HA in 2020.
Agricultural experts say the planting area in the country's 10 cotton growing states will be expanded by 20-25%. In addition, the Ministry of agriculture is ready to assist cotton growers, which will provide free traps and cottonseed bags to control pests in 2022 / 23.
Punjab has set a target of 400000 hectares of cotton acreage, said pakhar Singh, an agricultural official in the batinda region. The target area is 80000 hectares.
Speaking of efforts to contain pests, the Dao said: since December, villages have been holding propaganda camps to let farmers know about insect attacks. The cotton mill has been cleaned up to protect the crops from pink cotton bollworm.
Meanwhile, market analysts say cotton prices are directly related to supply and demand. Last year, global cotton production decreased, so the price rose. In the coming season, if production remains at a high level, then prices may fall. The
