Countervailing Duty Nepalese Clothing India Export

A 4% countervailing duty on Nepalese clothing entering India has hurt Nepal's clothing exports, despite India. government Additional tariffs on clothing imported from Nepal have been abolished.

The countervailing duty on Nepalese clothing was again introduced by the government of India in the 2011 budget for nearly two years.

However, the export of Nepalese garments to India was exempt from the export of the 162 category of Nepal in November 2011 by the government of India. additional After the tariff, it is expected to rise by 20%. The list of waivers of the government of India includes clothing 。

"The cancellation of additional tariffs obviously benefits Nepal's textiles and clothing sector," said Wu Dai, President of Nepal Apparel Association. In the past, we paid about 10% of customs duties, including additional duties and countervailing duties. But at present, we only pay 4% of the countervailing duty. However, in order to make Nepalese garments more competitive in the India market, we also call for the abolition of countervailing duties. The relationship between India and Nepal is very harmonious, and India also wants to develop our industry. Therefore, we hope that the India government will exempt from countervailing duties. "

Wu said optimistically: "compared with India, Nepal is a small market, so the India government may actively consider our case and abolish countervailing duty. It takes time, but we hope that this can happen. We are negotiating with our government in the hope that they will be able to reach such a decision very soon. "

In Nepal's fiscal year 2010-11, Nepal exported garments worth 4 billion Nepalese rupees, of which exports to India amounted to 500 million Nepalese rupees.
